“I Decide.” | Full Moon in Virgo

“I Decide.” | Full Moon in Virgo

On Thursday, March 1st, at 4:51 p.m., the Moon will be full in Virgo. As the moon arrives in this mutable, feminine earth sign, we will be inspired to work in the gardens of our hearts, pulling weeds and forcing blooms. Virgo is famed for her meticulous (if not fetishistic) attention to detail. Arriving in a cape of muted colors, guided by a pure heart, the virgin calls us to tend to our bodies.

The challenge we face down is one of purification. Virgo, ruler of the digestive tract, is a master of synthesis, of prizing what is vital and rejecting all else. What has seeped in through your skin only to harm your health? How are you manifesting balance in a physical, earthly way? We know how to watch the skies for signs, but do we know how to listen to our bodies? The Full Moon in Virgo calls us back to our physical temples, and reminds us to only let in that which truly nourishes and brings us strength. How are you worshiping your own flesh?

Virgo is ruled first by Mercury, god of poetry, travelers, mischief, language, and messages from the beyond. In Greco-Roman myth, Mercury was the messenger god. He was also responsible for guiding souls to the afterlife. With Mercury as her ruler, Virgo is a highly communicative and language oriented sign. Intellectual and discerning, Virgo’s phrase is “I Analyze.” She is blessed with the power of the poet and the thief.

The second ruler of Virgo is the goddess Vesta, a goddess who rules the realm of hearth, earth, and home. Attendants to the cult of Vesta (Vestal Virgins) were responsible for keeping the fire lit in her temple. Here, fire and earth meet. Virgo is both the pious maiden and the purifying flame. The duality of Vesta and Mercury reminds us that Virgo prizes both domesticity and intellect. The mundane and the extraordinary.

Several astrological angles will flow through the course of our day, complicating what will already be a high vibration Full Moon. Keep watch over yourself as the day progresses, and remember that this energy, as ever, is cyclical.

At 3:22 a.m., Venus in Pisces forms a trine angle to Jupiter in Scorpio. This is a lush connection, as the planet of love and sensuality is lit up by Jupiter, planet of luck, abundance, and excess. A beautiful transit for lovers, or for finding love, or for loving yourself. Yes, you! With both planets in sensitive, psychic water signs (Pisces and Scorpio), the feeling will be of joyous intuitive connectivity. A blessing for our day, no doubt.

At 10:10 a.m., the Moon in Virgo trines Saturn in Capricorn, acting as a stabilizing force. A call to return to traditional wisdom or the words of elders. A perfect time to consult that to-do list and hope to actually accomplish something. In the tumult of the Full Moon, you will be able to rely on the energy given by this transit. Carry amethyst, a stone associated with Saturn, with you. Finding the stone in your pocket will be a reminder of the earthy, grounded power of this transit. You are capable of steering the transformational tide.

At the end of the day, 8:59 p.m., the Moon in Virgo will sit opposite Neptune in Pisces. Our internal monologue will be at risk of becoming externalized. Neptune is the planet of dreams, of emotional fog. With Neptune comes the crossing of boundaries. This psychic planet gives access to dream language, which has divine importance but is sometimes unintelligible. As it challenges the Moon, luminary of our emotional selves, we might feel confused, or even paranoid. There will be a heightened possibility of merging with others, of forgetting yourself. Take good care at this time, we will all be hypersensitive and liable to make unexpected choices.

Themes around our bodies and how we care for them may come up, as Virgo is the ruler of the 6th House. The 6th House is the house of health, the body, rituals, small creatures, responsibility, and service. Tend lovingly to your physical body on this day. Virgo also loves gardens and the outdoors (she is associated with the harvest time in fall). If you can go pick flowers, or take a walk to immerse yourself in nature, today is the perfect day to do so. Consult your natal chart to see what part of it is ruled by Virgo, as this will be a place of heightened awareness or activity for you on this day.

We should note that the Full Moon strikes at 11 degrees of Virgo. Numerologists will tell us that 11 is a master number, associated with themes of spirituality, intuition, and enlightenment. Messages that come to us during this time may be related to our higher purpose, but that difficult Moon/Neptune opposition will try to bring confusion. Remember Virgo, embody her discernment. Full Moons bring the trappings of transformation. Only you can decide what your truth is.

With tenderness from vestal hearths,

Your Celestial Hermit
