New Moon in Pisces: To Be Healed By Water

Pisces, mutable, feminine, water sign, is the last sign of the zodiac. She rules the 12th House, the house of the soul. Symbolized by two fish tethered together, one gracefully hovering aloft, this glyph shows us the dual nature of the sign. One fish swims in the day-world, the realm of material being, and the other swims in the underworld, the unconscious mind, the ocean of spirit.

On Saturday, March 17 at 6:12 a.m., the Moon will be New in the sign of Pisces. This sign talks to us about faith and spirituality, about the workings of the soul on both a personal and universal level. It is artistic and passionate (and a little dramatic!), and highly attuned to suffering. Pisces seeks to heal through water. Ruled by Neptune, the planet of fog and dreams, Pisces energy blurs boundaries and makes us merge. The ineffable is favored over the rational. What have you been dreaming of lately? The little fish cannot tell if she is staring at herself in the mirror, or if she has a psychic twin joined to her lush tail.

Like her astrological opposite, Virgo, Pisces is a humanitarian sign, and is loyal and devoted to championing the downtrodden. Pisces wants to bring peace to mankind, and is radical in her acceptance of others for their eccentricities and flaws. Caring to a fault, the shadow side of Pisces can be activated when she is stretched too thin. This makes her retreat into a solitary place of depression or darkness. But the duality of the sign is part of its strength, and like the two fish tied by cosmic ribbon, this reminds us of the yin and yang qualities of life.

When the Moon is new in Pisces, it is a perfect time to begin anew in the energy of the fish. Pursue spiritual curiosities, take a leap (an oceanic dive?) of faith, start projects that have hidden in the recesses of your heartsoul for too long. Now is the time, you are being called to do the work you yearn for most. The power of the imagination is a vital component of the sign Pisces. Unleash your imaginative power without fear. Find ways to tap into your psychic self. Build an altar to Neptune. Celebrate the soul. Say to yourself that you are to be loved first and foremost by yourself. As the last sign of the zodiac, Pisces is wise, and she knows how truly difficult life can be. The New Moon in Pisces is here to love you, scars, scabs, and all, and invites you to find softness for yourself.

And so, with a cape of brilliant fish scales, we move forward into the new. The Sun and Moon will strike a cosmic chord with Chiron, keeper of our personal wounds. When the Moon commingles her energy with Chiron, we are invited to feel the depths of our most private pain, and are given an opportunity to heal. Old hurts may resurface at this time. Rather than run from them, try to embrace them, melt into them, bring them into a sacred bath with you. You cannot heal the hurt you avoid. Take this opportunity, it is a gate to self-acceptance.

We will feel ambitious and positive, as the Moon forms a trine angle to Jupiter, planet of exploration, luck, and excess. Trines are stabilizing angles, and this one will promote an easy flow of energy between the Moon and Jupiter. Our emotional energy will be aligned with our ambitions. This is an opportunity to make positive change for yourself, all while feeling swaddled in the joyous strength of Jupiter.

Venus will form a trine angle to the North Node, bringing us hope and inspiration around themes of sensuality, our bodies, our love, our senses of fertility. Good feelings toward those in our midst will help bring relationships to the next level, encouraging us to make progress. Venus talks to us about love and money, and the North Node represents the path we need to walk in this lifetime to achieve soul-growth. With positive energy shining between these two entities, we can let our hearts soften a bit. Open yourself to new possibilities, and try to release fear.

We may feel impatient or overexcited, as the Moon squares Mars. Mars is in the process of moving from Sagittarius to Capricorn, and this transition brings instability to the planet. The Moon represents our emotional selves, and Mars our active, ambitious selves. With the tough square angle between them there will be a bit of misalignment between what we desire and how we go about getting it. I believe there is enough supportive energy in the above-mentioned transits to get us through any instances of imbalance.

We should also consider Mars’s aforementioned move from Sagittarius to Capricorn, as Mars will stay in the sign of Capricorn until May 16 of this year. With Mars in Capricorn, we will be granted the power to balance our ambition with good, strategic planning. We will be empowered to find the discipline and diligence to make good on our promises to ourselves to do our work—whatever that looks like for you. Capricorn is methodical, practical, deeply intelligent. It is objective, yet obsessive. It will slow down some of the fiery nature of Mars, a planet that likes to launch itself into action at a moment’s notice. The next few month will be the perfect time to use or hone skills of organization, self-mastery and discipline, and deliberation to push your projects forward.

That’s all for now, dear hearts. See you in a few weeks, when the Moon is full in the sign Libra.

Fishtail bluegreen and gleaming,

Your Celestial Hermit
