New Moon in Taurus and Uranus’ Earth Transit

New moon taurus venus celestial hermit the house of Twigs

When the Moon is in Taurus, she is exalted. Dreamy Venus, ruler of Taurus, blends her energy with the Moon and we feel in love with beauty. Natural aesthetic sensitivity and passionate emotionality bloom. This planetary placement sees earth-bound Taurus bring a materiality to the otherwise ethereal Moon. Desires for financial, physical, emotional security are present.

With Venus in your dream-mind, you will want to glut yourself on color, texture, skin. Emotional events elicit reactions on an instinctual level. A tendency toward stubbornness of vision. With the Moon in Taurus, a rose blooms on the moon; a lilac is tucked behind the ear of a cow.

With May 15th’s New Moon in Taurus, we will find space to re-orient ourselves. Taurus is a sign with four hooves firmly rooted on the ground. Ruler of the Second House, Taurus presides over our sense of resources, how we collect them, allocate them, how we value them. Intellectually and emotionally, this is a sign that takes its time. You cannot rush Taurus to do anything before they are good and ready, and honestly, after the past few weeks’s intense astrology, I am grateful for this Taurean interlude. Taurus is a cultivator of beautiful spaces. Couldn’t we all use a little more of that in our lives?

Each cycle, when the Moon is New, the Sun and Moon are conjunct, meaning they occupy the same sign. Astrological conjunctions indicate a blending of energies, a sort of melting between the two planets. With the Sun conjunct the Moon, our ego mind and unconscious mind come together, bringing us back to ourselves, and letting us find a peaceful balance between the external and the internal self. New Moons are a cosmic re-set.

How have you been, dear Seeker? How have you been using your time? What brings you warmth? What hurts you? In meditation or ritual, make a list of what has come to you since the Moon was last new (April 15th), as well as what you have lost. The Sun and Moon are both in Taurus, and Taurus is the queen of making practical plans to achieve her goals. A sign that is at once naturally fertile and almost clinically practical, Taurus is here to support you on the path to your dreams.

We will receive help from the Moon trine Mars at 1:30 p.m., as this supportive, flowing aspect lets us translate emotional desire into conscious action. Moon trine Mars acts like a conduit between your unconscious mind and your sense of action and conquest. A perfect time to start fresh projects, my friends.

Dear readers, on the same day that this New Moon in Taurus arrives, so too starts a brave new transit—Uranus moves from Aries to Taurus, where it will stay for the next 7 years. Cosmically speaking, this is a big deal. The last time Uranus was in Taurus was from 1935-42. In an historical way, we can look back and recognize that period as a time of great intensity for the world. But no one era is exactly like the other. It will be up to our generation to determine how we use this fresh infusion of Uranian energy.

With Uranus in Taurus, two radically different astrological entities have to share space. Uranus is the planet of futurity, electricity, invention, progressive thought. It strikes without warning, and disrupts the mundane. It is associated with the mythological Prometheus, who took sacred fire from the gods and brought it to mankind, ushering in the invention of myriad technologies. Taurus, as we know, is comforted by routine, and though plenty of Taureans are forward thinking, they like to make progress in their own time. This is the clash between Uranus and Taurus: Uranus’s visionary nature puts pressure on Taurus’s conservative impulses. It cracks the carefully constructed foundation that the bull has labored over, and the earth begins to slide out from under hoof.

To me, this suggests a time of re-evaluation of your defenses, your old treasures. What are the walls you have built up around your life, your sense of self, your heart, that allow you to stay safe? Have you avoided risk for too long? If so, Uranus is here to knock on your door and remind you that it is time to move on. Drop the act, banish the fear.

While it is important to build up methods of keeping ourselves sane in this world, we can become too attached, too comfortable. Uranus will not let us stay this way. We can see this as a positive, as we offer ourselves up to new manifestations of success, and form new connections to ourselves and the world around us. Consult your natal chart to see what part of it is ruled by Taurus, this is the piece of your life that will be most influenced by this futuristic planet.

The movement of Uranus into Taurus commingling with the New Moon in Taurus is a gift, a gentle message that even though change is sometimes jarring, we should not forget to connect to our own sense of fertility. Remember that though the days may stretch you thin or wear on you, you have power. Remember that Taurus is associated with The Empress in the tarot—the card of ultimate fertility, Venusian wonder, and wild growth. You can find yourself in a field of flowers, horns green-gold and gleaming.

With tenderness and electricity,

Your Celestial Hermit
