F*CK BEING NICE: Be Kind

“Tenderness and kindness are not signs of weakness and despair, but manifestations of strength and resolution.”

Kahlil Gibran

Lately I have found that I am much more of an observer than usual.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I am still and will always very much be a doer, but I look for patterns through the observations of myself and the collective, then apply what I have learned to my personal actions.

One of my recent discoveries is that, for many of us, there really is no difference between our Mundane and our Magickal lives; they become so intertwined that the lines disappear. In some cases where the Magickal side must be hidden due to family, or other circumstances, even then, a Witch is a Witch is a Witch.

I argue if the lines ever really existed or if societal pressures, and learned behavior created a mirage in our minds.

Regardless, whether we are grocery shopping, running errands, taking care of our children, or performing ritual and ceremony, we are who we are.

And, we are powerful beings.

Witches, Mystics and Occultists view the world without the illusions and comfort of rose colored glasses; we view people the same way.

We can’t be fooled, we will always see people for who they are, and any hidden motives they may have.

On top of that, we reflect hidden aspects that people don’t wish to acknowledge.

In turn, they hate us, but the reality is, they hate themselves.

Because we are Magickal creatures and our words and actions carry such power, emotion and energy, we must be even more aware, cautious, and mindful of what we send out.

It is the very power that I carry that makes me act out of kindness, but never out of niceness.

You see, I am not a nice person.

I am not a people pleaser.

I do not act from a place that seeks the approval of others; I act from a place of truth.

Do I always act out of kindness? No, I am not perfect, and I fuck up all the time.

My truth: I am a flawed, powerful, creative and destructive individual.

The good thing about that is, we are ever changing, and ever evolving; there is no end to the growth. So, there is plenty of time to become the best version of myself I can be, and I strive for that, every single day.

We all should strive for that.

The more mindful we become with our actions and the more control we have over, not only them, but our emotions, too, something changes deep inside of us, and it’s a change that can never be undone.

When we are no longer controlled by emotions and erratic behavior, it creates room for us to become grounded, confident, compassionate and empathetic practitioners and humans.

I am a hot-headed, ball of chaos and emotion, so you can imagine how much of an uphill battle I fight every day.

We all have battles to fight.

No matter how pretty, or perfect someone’s life looks from the outside, they face their own set of struggles and adversity. Anyone who tells you they don’t have internal and/or external conflict are lying; to you and to themselves.

These invisible battles are exactly why kindness, and not niceness is necessary.

So, what is the difference between being kind and being nice?

Well, nice is defined as “pleasing, agreeable, delightful” and kind is defined as “having, showing or proceeding from benevolence”.

Again, I say, I am not a nice person. I am kind.

I am not pleasing. I am annoying with my stubbornness, abrasive, aggressive, and have a zero tolerance policy for bullshit. I am not an easy pill to swallow and I will absolutely irritate your pallet.

I am not agreeable. I will not paint a picture with pretty lies to appease you, I will serve nothing but ugly truth. I will never tell you something you want to hear but will always tell you what needs to be heard. I will never agree with or allow something to continue that goes against who I am as person just to avoid confrontation. I am here to make you uncomfortable.

I am not delightful. I am darkness, and shadows; truth and light. I am the pain you wish to ignore. I am an individual in a world that tells you to fall in line. I am rebellion embodied, and there is nothing delightful about any of this.

You will never forget an encounter with a person like myself, and there are many of us out there; more awakening each day.

Unless I am protecting myself, or “mine” (anything belonging to me) then I act from a place of genuine and authentic benevolence.

I will only act from a place of malice if I have been met with malice, and even then, sometimes the best thing to do in those scenarios is shield, ward, ground, and send out blessings in the form of spiritual lessons, rather than go for all out Malefica.

I am kind, though.

I am the type of person who will hold a door for someone, with zero expectation of any gratitude on their part. If I see someone (particularly a Woman—I am all about building other Women up) with a hairstyle, purse, perfume, etc. that I like, I will compliment them; sometimes it’s awkward for both of us, but honestly, who doesn’t like to be complimented?

I strike up conversations with strangers in line at the Post Office all the time, and again, it’s awkward for me (sometimes I think more so for me, than them; they often love it!). People crave human interaction, they want to be seen and acknowledged and if I can in any way help them feel validated in their presence, then I will do it.

The media pushes divisive narratives, our political and religious systems do, too, and I want to fucking shatter all of that.

I want people to know that there are countless “boots on the ground” and we are fighting against a regime that wants to oppress us; I want people to know that the warriors are hearing their calls, and we are coming to their aid. I want people to know the revolution is here.

And, we’re starting by killing systematic lies with random acts of kindness.
