Full Aquarius Moon + Lunar Eclipse: The Holy Mountain

Here in the velvet center of summer, it is the season of eclipse.

Held now between last month’s New Moon in Cancer partial solar eclipse, and August 11th’s New Moon solar eclipse in Leo, we are being washed over by waves and depths of transformative celestial power. We have been facing down particularly difficult astrology this month with really no end in sight. Mercury begins its retrograde on July 25th, joining the ranks of Mars, Neptune, Saturn, Uranus and Pluto. In the fairytale or mythic imaginary, we can see ourselves as making a descent to the underworld at this time. Our firehearts must make a trip down into the depths in order to move our story forward.

On July 27th, the Moon will reach her fullness in fixed, masculine, air sign Aquarius. Aquarius is the water-bearer, the futurist, the compassionate inventor. Aquarius is the humanitarian of the zodiac, ruled concurrently by Saturn, planet of time, rules, and boundaries, and Uranus, planet of electric surprise, of technology.

Aquarius is restless without exploration, without forward movement. It is ripe for genius, attuned to invention. There is no exaggeration in saying that we are living in dark times. This Aquarian Full Moon is trying to get us to work for the future. To imagine a future, and strive to live in it. To chase utopia as a way of shedding pain and suffering. No pressure.

Compounding the theme of transformation via futuristic vision, we have the powerful energy of these eclipses putting wind in our sails, pushing our vessels across entire psychic and emotional oceans, regardless of our plans for navigation. With these eclipses, we are able to break away from tired energetic patterns, so that we may cultivate new ones going forward. It is a season of manifestation, a season of purging, a season of assessment and realignment. Think back to the themes you were dealing with six months ago, with the New Aquarius Moon in February. What desires did you have at that point in time, and how have they manifested now? We are balanced on the brink of the harvest, and with one more eclipse to go, we are certainly about to see great change on both a personal and societal level.

It is time to break cycles of dormancy, abuse, and fear, and this powerful astrology can help, if worked with carefully. Our Full Aquarius Moon will sit exactly conjunct Mars, which is currently retrograde. Rather than having a direct outlet for our desire for action, conflict, and force, we may be turning our frustration inward, or misdirecting it toward inappropriate targets. Make sure that you are acting in accordance with this Mars retrograde energy. This is not a time to try to conquer the world, but rather make internal adjustments to your confrontational skills and styles, to look within about what triggers your rage, and how to go about dealing with that in a healthy, productive manner.

The Moon conjunct a retrograde Mars will tempt us to lash out, both at the world and at ourselves. Concentrate on something powerful in yourself, something you love, and focus on that strength to bypass this energy, rather than getting caught up in the confusion of Mars’s shadow.

Also to be noted is the Moon forming a square to Uranus, which is also retrograde at the moment. Moon square Uranus encourages explosions, tempers, rules broken and burned. Emotions will flare, and our interest in the abstract or strange will be heightened.

Adding to the list of galactic baggage we will have to sort out is Mercury stationing retrograde on July 25th in Leo. This famous event will bring up themes of confusion around communication, travel, and our use of technology. Personal expression will be challenged at this time, as Leo is the artist of ego-oriented assertion. This transit is here with us through the next eclipse on August 11th, and Mercury stations direct on August 19th. Mercury retrograde is always a time to ask yourself what the best way of communicating with yourself and others is, and fine tuning your approach to language and technology. Miscommunications are inevitable at this time, but with care and deep breathing, you will be in control. These transits are temporary and are here to help us learn and connect more deeply, to become wiser, and to grow.

Right now the planets roil and shake above our heads. We are living through a period of great force, great change, and cosmic cord cutting. Chances are you are feeling like your back is against the wall at this point. You may be feeling pain, loss, you may be hurting. My dear Seekers, I want you to let go of what seems to be slipping out of your grasp. Gripping tighter every day does not allow new blooms to open, and to breathe. How will you ever know the color of your blossoms if they are root bound?

The themes we are working with now will follow us through the next year, and will be transformative. I do not diminish the pain you may be feeling at this point in time, but do encourage you to take comfort in the fact that we are collectively being led through the same portal at this time. In Jodorowsky’s The Holy Mountain, Seekers are forced to shed unnecessary thought patterns, comforts, material attachments, and various forms of ignorance as they push to the summit. They hallucinate, vomit, laugh, shaved their heads, and burn their money. We are being led to the top of our own holy mountain. Fear not that which is lost along the path. Loss’s harrowing depths can be balanced by grace. Look down, and you’ll realize the stones that once tripped you have turned into roses.

with love, and with you,

Celestial Hermit
