Breaking a Circle, Dreaming out Ex-Friends, Spells Not Working, and More on Shadow Work

Today from the Cat’s Eye…

MC ASKS – What happens if you are in a ritual circle that is complete and you break it? Is there a consequence if you break that circle when you are inside of it?

REPLY – Many would answer this by telling you to energetically cut an opening in the sacred circle to come and go with an athame and leave it at that, but you asked if there was a consequence to such an action, and that would depend on the variables.

If you or others inside the circle were deep into something when you stepped out, at minimum, you broke the energy and the working by stepping out. This is because the sacred circle is more than just a circle of protection we cast. The circle is a macrocosm to practice magic in. Macrocosm is the whole, a complex structure, a world or universe, and the sacred circle is a representative of that Macrocosm. So, the consequence there is you created a “disturbance in the force Luke.” If you fear a far greater “consequence”, that will depend on what kind of magic was being worked at the time, like creating an elemental being and walking out in the middle of such a working. That could lead to some trouble if not dealt with properly, so I recommend before you enter a circle be sure all your needs are met before you enter so you can be fully present.

AJ ASKS – Okay I don’t know if this is something I should worry about but I have this weird feeling like someone is near me and warning me about incoming danger. I think I hear a voice telling me “don’t go to sleep…it’s not safe” What can this mean, and should I banish it?

REPLY – This could be a spirit guide cautioning you. It could be a spirit trying to talk to you about its own issues it wants help with, or your subconscious not wanting to revisit a dream or telling you about something it fears. However, before you banish or block it recommend you ask this being questions. Sit down in a meditative state and ask it why you should not sleep. There may be a good reason or not, either way, be sure before you act.

EF ASKS – So what does it mean if you keep dreaming about an ex-friend that did you wrong and then you suddenly see them around in real life. are they doing something dark or are they trying to manifest?

REPLY – No to all of the above. Your conscious is telling you to make amends while you can and be accountable.

GP ASKS – I can honestly say that I have never been so serious about a craft as this one. I want to practice and practice enough so that my spells work. I know about the intent and seriousness of them. I have watched. I have listened. I have taken notes, etc, etc. I wait until it’s quiet. I write down my intentions and so on. I did a freezer spell and thought it worked. But it did not. Money bowls haven’t worked. I’ve had spell papers I have burned not work; nothing seems to work. What am I not doing right? What do I need to be doing differently?

REPLY – First, relax and breathe. Your dedication and enthusiasm is appreciated. It is possible to try too hard. I recommend you relax and breathe as you draw calm energy through you up from the earth and let it mingle with your own. Then gently put that energy into your workings. Energy and power from the practioner are needed in magical workings, not just technique and force.

EH ASKS – I am an empath. Recently I a met lady calling herself a witch. She told me I was very powerful and have a lot of magic in me. I wonder if she was right and what do I do about it?

REPLY – All empaths have a lot of magic in them. And being a very powerful empath usually means you feel deeply and have the ability to use that. What to do about it is up to you. You can help heal others, you can heal your own soul or you can lend your empathic energies to any magical working you choose to. Many Blessings on your journey.

AL ASKS – I’ve collected moon water since 2020, but have a problem. We are making a long-distance move in a couple of weeks and I’m driving but won’t have room to take in auto. What do I do with it?

REPLY – Wash down the house you are leaving. Use it to water the yard and plants to give them one final blessing and to make sure you leave nothing but good energy behind when you leave.

EL ASKS – Why is shadow work important and when should you do it?

REPLY – Good question! The answer depends on who you ask and there is no one right reply to this. So, I will give you my reasons for shadow work. I do shadow work so the shadows of my inner person are dealt with in a sufficient manner as they do not interfere in my magical practices, and so they do not creep up and cause me personal emotional issues later.

When should you do shadow work?

When you have inner turmoil causing you emotional disturbances that are getting in the way of your functioning.

How do you begin shadow work?

Pick one thing about yourself you think needs attention. and dig in, the rest will follow, that is how you begin shadow work.

Cat was raised in a magical system by her mother and grandmother and was initiated by them into the family tradition at age 13. Over the years her grandmother taught her the ways of a Hedgewitch, Wortcunning, and “The Knowing” which is a mix of clairsentience, personal gnosis, and psychic ability. From working in the garden with her grandmother Cat became passionate about herbal medicine. Her insights about this are often discussed in her Facebook group Herbal Alchemy. Cat’s mother being less traditional, was a progressive-minded Christian Mystic that gave Cat her interfaith morals and taught her to be an avid reader. Cat’s literary education in the craft began at age 10 with authors such as Edgar Cayce, Marion Zimmerman Bradley, Lobsang Rampa, Gavin, and Yvonne Frost, The Golden Bough, and many more which she continues to this day. By the age of 18, Cat was adept in clairvoyance, UPG, dream work, astral travel, mediumship, and empathic skills. She went on to use those skills in her work as a Dual Diagnosis counselor when inspired by Judith Orloff’s book Second Sight. During her 15 years of counseling, Cat worked in such places as the Salvation Army ARC, The city detox, methadone clinics, and The Native Nations in Portland Oregon. She stepped into the public arena of Paganism at age 50 through Rowan Tree Pagan Ministries, began teaching and became an Ordained Pagan Minister and High Priestess. Cat founded the initiatory coven and school, by the name The Coven of the rising Phoenix in 2016. She is a published author, Psychic Skills for Magic and Witchcraft, through Llewellyn, and writes for The Green Egg Magazine.
