We live on as ghosts. There are parts of us and our history that have died. We no longer have use for them yet they linger. They hover near, long ghostly fingers tugging at our hair. Heavy booted footsteps dragging on the floor of our dreams. Sometimes they even come knocking on our doors, hoping to get us trapped in downward spiral, in a reverie of bad memories. But these parts of ourselves no longer have a role here. They have served their purpose. It’s time to let go. It’s time to let them go in love and thus release yourself from the burden and bindings of the past. You don’t live there anymore. Let your past self-return to where they belong and free yourself of their hauntings so you can explore the future without fear.
Samhain is the perfect night for addressing and freeing your ghosts. Not only is it the witches’ New Year but it is the night when the veil between worlds is thin. The dead rise and come to speak to us, some as wise ancestors and some as annoying tricksters. But for our purposes it opens a gate through which we can send our past back to where it belongs so we are no longer haunted and drowning in regret, sadness, shame, and bitterness.
The ten card Revenant tarot spread
For Samhain.
This tarot spread will simply show you what you are dealing with and how to start sending your ghosts back to where they belong. I haven’t included a full ritual as a ritual of this kind will end up being very personalized. You are effectively working magick on yourself and that is why it’s important to design the spell yourself. But this tarot will give you a starting point.
Card 1: Banishment: What do you need to leave behind? Who or what aspect of yourself and your past is your revenant?
Card 2 Crossroads: Why are you finding it hard to let go of this ghost/part of yourself?
Card 3 Séance: Are there any important final messages from this part of your past?
Card 4 Channelling: Are there any messages from your future self?
Card 5 Ritual: What is the first step in getting rid of your revenant?
Card 6 Healing spell: What will it mean for you heart to be free of this haunting? How will you heal?
Card 7 Scrying: What is the best way to celebrate being free of this revenant in order to seal its departure?
Card 8 Flying: What good will come flooding into your life now that you are free?
Card 9 Grounding: What’s the first step to encouraging the new into your life?
Card 10 Amulet: What do you need to be careful of?
