  • “The July 16th Full Moon eclipse in Capricorn will conjunct the South Node at 24°, and will be disruptive, loud, and dissonant. Patriarchs don’t like being dragged down. Luckily the cosmos is on our side. Finding ways to reject outmoded ways of thinking about and relating to power are our best bet at this point in time. The world needs it, our planet needs it, we all need it if we are to move forward. What’s more is that there are currently five planets retrograde, and so there are more questions than answers at this time. There is no point in putting pressure on yourself to have wisdom, insight, conclusions, or resolution right now. Today, July 7th, Mercury stationed retrograde at 4° Leo. The planet of communication just entered fiery Leo, and now will reverse course, slipping backward through Cancer’s final degrees. Keep an ear out for old conversations, arguments, emails, texts, emotions, and gut feelings you had from June 20th through July 6th, and note what echoes back at you from the void. This is as strong a chance at entering a time machine as we can have, these days. Retrograde is not to be feared, but rather is a chance to meet our problems from another perspective, and in doing so, find alternatives to growth.   • Queering Witchcraft: Celebrating Pride Month through Non-Binary, Mixed Culture, and All Things on the Rainbow Spectrum - “Today misunderstood concepts about queer culture continue to come up in the contemporary witch-world, but with a different flavor. As a new witch, one can be quickly turned off reading a book on “women’s magic”, the “Great Rite”, or something specifically dealing with gender. As a magical community I think it’s important to look at the way we talk about these concepts. Witches are known to be some of the most inclusive and open minded sub-group in the spiritual spectrum. Some of this has to do with the fact that witches are always outcasts. Each magickal path can be individualistic, making it really about what each person chooses and identifies with. In relationship to the Kinsey Scale and energetic perspectives, one can identify as a cis female, but still work with a deity such as Pan (A nymph chasing, penis out, obviously masculine representative nature god). One can identify as a trans woman, and still identify with Pan. I’m not trying to overtly target Pan here, but he is known to be a very male, phallic-centric deity, so you get my point of ____ diety and ____ person.   • “Astrologically, Frida is a solar Cancer with her Moon in Taurus and Leo on the ascendant. The ascendant is the angle of beginning, and indicates to us that the Sun is the ruler of her chart, as Leo is ruled by the Sun. In her chart, the Sun in Cancer sits in House 11, conjunct Neptune, and alongside Jupiter and her North Node, which rest conjunct one another as well. And so in House 11 we see the ego (Sun) blend with the planet of illusion, fantasy, and madness (Neptune), and the planet of fertility, optimism, and excess merges with the node of fate.   • "Basil has a rich history in pagan and folklore magick. It is a pungent herb with a distinct flavor that can help deter pests in the garden, especially when placed next to one of its culinary lovers, the tomato plant. Folklore herbalists have used it as a natural adaptogen, for it’s anti-bacterial qualities, anti-inflammatory qualities, and more. Records have been found before 206 B.C.E. that said it only “exists to drive men insane”. For the Romans and Greeks, it was associated with hatred. To grow a proper crop of basil, one was supposed to swear and cuss when sowing the seeds. Of course, that ideology of basil has changed since it became a symbol of Love in Italy. Some areas of Italy associate it both with Love and Death. There are 35 or more types of Basil, and I might guess anywhere it has been grown, it has interesting folklore. Some of the more commonly known are sweet bail, Thai basil, and holy basil (tulsi) in Indian Culture. Being sacred in India, it is not surprising that it is used in countless Ayurvedic recipes. I drink tulsi tea when I’m feeling stressed and it is said that it can block the cortisol hormone. I can’t help but wonder if the lore comes from it’s ability to absorb negative energy, and somehow transmute it. Perhaps that is why it has been said to be in connection with the scorpion.
