Court your Desires

I love the way they work…

The full moon in Scorpio had just occurred and here in Spain that meant it was early afternoon.  I was working away at my desk putting feelers out with my Spiritual Allies for inspiration on creating a new course. My dog looks up and I follow his gaze.

Exu Capa Preta is stood in my doorway, he tips his hat to confirm a piece of macumba is complete, and then he leaves. As dramatic as always.

Love that guy.

Around midnight the same night I can feel a conversation going on in the room around me.  Pomba Gira Maria Quiteria and Exu Sete Catacumbas are making it really hard for me to sleep as their energy is so peppy, so full of vitality, so I give up and ask ‘what’s up?’

The gist of what Maria wanted, what all the Pomba Giras wanted, was another column. I was exasperated, I had been asking Pomba Gira what she wanted me to write about for weeks, as I use the column as a way to honour her and Exu, a way to counteract the nonsensical beliefs some have about them.

Maria stepped closer “She already told you.”

“That!? You want me to put THAT out into the world.”

“What better way to show who we truly are?” Maria smiled.

Fuck.

Meanwhile Sete Catacumbas is just off in his own world – clearly just here for the ride. Not that I minded, been a little while since I had a half naked man in my bedroom.

‘Marcel’ in The Originals

Right here goes…

Last Friday I celebrated Beltane with a huge fire all through the night in my fireplace. During this I went into my Cabula to celebrate a little with them (I work with more than Quimbanda) before going back out to enjoy the wee hours with the rest of my team.

When I got there the usual love was given along with a lot of thanks on the festival of fire. I sat down on the cold concrete, took a log drag from a cigarette and I knew.

They had something they wanted to say…

“Don’t forget the love, this is what we conjure in you.

This is what we relish.

Your love is pure and untainted for us as there are no expectations, no needing to be.

Nurture your heart when we are unable and be sure to always think of us as light.

Think of us as you.

We are the same.

People expect and people want us to fulfil their desires, but desires are tricky sirens.

Often the waters are too deep. Often we drown.

Court your desires, ensure marriage is what you truly want.

Heart and Soul Silver. Heart and soul.”

As you can imagine sharing this (what I thought was personal) channelling with you makes me feel rather vulnerable, hence my reticence.

When they speak of marriage, they speak of marriage to your desires – the old ‘be careful what you wish for’. So think carefully and consider the consequences of what you are asking for before any macumba.

Reversal is a bitch.

In these uncertain times there have been those who have been asking the Quimbanda Spirits for things they have not thought through;  those who think their Spirits aren’t listening to what they want, when in reality your Exu or Pomba Gira simply know you better than you know yourself.

They understand we are all living in a pressure cooker and are attempting to crack the lid a little before we drown ourselves.

For me, the reason Maria Quiteria wanted this shared is because it’s another example of the dynamic between the spirits of Quimbanda and us magnificent humans.

They aren’t here simply to grant our every desire, seek vengeance on your boss or bind that man to you.

Spirits of the fire and night, born in a time of bloodshed and torture, pain and anguish. Why would they talk of love? Of hearts?

I get it.

But the fire warms you when you are cold. Instils passion in you when you are numb and puts that spark back in your soul when you are ready to give up.

As for the darkness…acceptance. Pure unadulterated freedom of expression. No judgement.

Pomba Gira and Exu are here for our personal journeys, they are here to help us become the best people we can be by facing the depths of our soul and the lack we sometimes find there.

They are our friends, not our weapons.

Remember darling, love them and they will most certainly love you back.
